From what I have read in my book so far, I've learned that Bruce Lee's first Cantonese name was Li Sai Fon (little phoenix), a feminine name, because his mother was extremely superstitious. His name was then changed to Li Jun Fan (return again). He actually had a lot of name changes when his grandmother nicknamed him "Bruce". Really, what I'm wondering about is how Chinese superstition works. From what I've read about it, it's really complicated. There's this whole thing about the death of a son is worse than that of a daughter, and then if the first child is a son, then the second needs to be a daughter. There's also name taboos. Strangely, there's a bit of this that I actually do understand. Even though I haven't really read that much, I found this book, Bruce Lee: Fighting Spirit, really interesting, and as of now, I'd recommend it to anyone who's into martial arts. Seriously, Bruce Lee is the master of masters of any martial art!
